Cochrane, Alberta Coun. Pushing for New Residential Zoning

Coun. Morgan Nagel is advocating for a new type of zoning within the town of Cochrane, Alberta. 'R-E ,' or residential estate would entail larger lots, higher set-backs from neighbors and more estate-style homes. Nagel feels that the new zoning addresses a need for those currently having to move into bordering Rocky View County to find such product.

Conversely, Drew Hyndman (Sr. Manager of Cochrane Development Services) states that while there are currently no restrictions to building such estate-style homes under current 'R-1' (single family) zoning, he states that land economics have changed significantly over the years (i.e. trending towards smaller lots due to cost).

The motion will be debated in council, with ample opportunities for the public to provide feedback as the process unfolds.
